911 call for 2-year-old ingesting marijuana leads to 2 arrests in Clermont County

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A Clermont County investigation that began with a 911 call about an unresponsive 2-year-old boy has led to indictments and arrests tied to suspected marijuana cultivation and trafficking.

At 10:37 a.m. on June 19, the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive 2-year-old male in the 2100 block of Laurel Lindale Road in Monroe Township. During the call, the 911 call taker overheard information suggesting the child may have ingested marijuana.

Deputies with the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe Township EMS then responded to the scene. The child was determined to be in stable, non-life-threatening condition and was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center for treatment.

Medical test results indicated the child tested positive for cannabinoids, which are chemical compounds found in cannabis plants that produce various physical and psychological effects.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office investigations division opened an investigation into the circumstances. The child’s mother, Brooklyn Maffey, gave a statement saying she was uncertain about the cause of the child’s medical condition, but provided investigators information about events and activities prior to the incident.

As the investigation continued, detectives identified a residence in the 1100 block of Ivy Farm Way in Pierce Township as the likely location of the incident. Investigators also identified an adult male, William Wilson, who lives at that location and was suspected of cultivating and trafficking marijuana.

On June 22, detectives with the sheriff’s office investigations division and the Clermont County narcotics task force, assisted by the Pierce Township Police Department, executed a search warrant at the Ivy Farm Way residence. Authorities said they seized $24,600 in cash, 11 firearms, 45 marijuana plants, 12.33 pounds of marijuana flower, 25.48 pounds of mushroom spores, 754.1 grams of THC derivative items, 147 varying types of pills, and items related to the cultivation, preparation, and trafficking of marijuana.

During the search warrant, authorities said Wilson voluntarily provided a statement to detectives about the incident involving Maffey and her child and acknowledged having direct knowledge of how the child came into contact with the substance. Wilson was taken to the Clermont County Jail and charged with one count of having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony; one count of illegal cultivation of marijuana, a fourth-degree felony; and one count of trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

On June 23, Wilson appeared for arraignment before Clermont County Municipal Court Magistrate Matthew Graber and was given a $20,000 cash/surety bond. Authorities said Wilson posted bond the same day and was released on reporting bond.

After the indictment, Maffey and Wilson were arrested without incident by sheriff’s deputies and taken to the Clermont County Jail, where authorities said they will be held without bond. Both are scheduled to appear before Clermont County Common Pleas Judge Jason Nagel on July 1 at 10 a.m. for arraignments on the charges outlined in the indictment.

Authorities said the municipal court case involving Wilson will be dismissed because of the indictments, and any future proceedings involving Wilson will continue in Clermont County Common Pleas Court.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be pursued pending laboratory analysis of items found during the incident.
